On The Peak
Have you ever stepped on a Peak? I mean a real mountain peak. With winter approaching it is easy to get trapped indoors watching TV but winter has offered me one of the most breath-taking moments of my life.
I for one am an avid skier and have seen a few amazing panoramic views, but none quite like the moment that is etched in my heart. It was a few years ago now, we were on a family trip in Switzerland – what a glorious country – we were skiing Verbier for a week. I was off with my brother and best friend riding the cable car to the top. They are both scared of heights, so I went up the last 50 meters alone – in ski boots up a steep sun beaten icy slope, thankfully a cable to clutch firmly off to one side, partially buried in ice, very awkward and scary, losing my footing several times to the amusement of my two fans.
Stunned and speechless at the top, bone biting cold winds, holding on to the massive iron cross for dear life, for in all directions all I could see was white cap mountains set against a clear blue sky. Yes a full 360 degrees of peaks, layers deep, stretched beyond the visible horizon, on top of the world I fell to my knees in awe of planet earth. Here at the point where the land meets the sky and the whole universe beyond. Life is beautiful, crisp clear, even magical and impossible. I motion to my companions to join me, they decline, and so the moment was mine alone, engraved in my heart to carry and share wherever I go.
So get out there in nature: It is good to be alive, good to push our limits and comfort zone. Go collect those moments that take your breath away.
