Smiling Makes you Happy
If you’re looking for a way to feel better each and every day put the Prozac aside and try smiling more. While it runs in direct opposition to logic, studies have shown that smiling actually makes you happier. Consider that your unconscious and conscious mind are not completely in sync and that your unconscious works primarily through your body. When your unconscious senses your smiling it, rationally enough, assumes that you must be happy. I’m sure the logic goes something like “Well it looks like I’m smiling, so either I’m happy or crazy, better go with happy.” One study demonstrated that smiling for 20 minutes each day while watching themselves in a mirror was as effective at treating depressed patients as drugs. So the next time you’re feeling a little blue and there isn’t a copy of Elated News handy to lift your spirits reach take a few minutes to make yourself smile and I guarantee you’ll start to feel a little better.
